Celebrating Christmas in Song, 1983: In collecting a book of Christmas materials for Unitarian Universalists, Carl Seaburg set aside those poems which he felt had the potential to be lifted into song. These carols now appear as a chapter in the publication CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS, prepared under the auspices of the Unitarian Universalist Ministers Association. Leo Collins, Music Director at the First Church in Boston was asked to seek out suitable music. This he has drawn from many sources: traditional English carol tunes, a Southern folk hymn, a melody from a symphony of Mahler, as well as selections from the vast hymn tune repertory. When no compatible item was to be located, he fashioned original compositions to enhance the meaning of the poem.
